Safe, secure and affordable transport access to schools is essential if our children are to achieve their academic and social potential. As the distance children travel continues to increase, this becomes even more important. We work to maintain cheaper fares for children, as well as paying for additional school buses where they are needed. We also work closely with Education Authorities to develop safer routes to schools initiatives and ensure a consistent accessibility standard is applied. We currently pay for over 100 buses each day which operate about 350 school bus journeys at a cost of £1.8m.
