Control Room Tour The Control room is the heart of the day to day running of the Metro system.
There are various desk functions within the control room:
- Metro Duty Manager - is responsible for the day to day running of the Metro control room and Metro service.
- System Desk - is responsible for safe operation and regulation of the Metro train service.
- Station Desk - is responsible for Metro Infrastructure and stations, deploys staff to attend faults on the Metro system (i.e., ticket machines, lifts, escalators, etc…)
- Power Desk - is responsible for monitoring the Overhead Line equipment, carrying out isolations as and when necessary.
- Passenger Services Desk - is responsible for providing real time information to customers via PA's, Platform Destination Indicators, answering customer queries via Help Points, monitoring CCTV on Metro stations.
Tours will be conducted by the Schools and Community Liaison Officer with the help of the Metro Duty Manager, who will explain the function of each desk. CCTV can be shown and operated by a customer services operator (PTZ Zoom In/Out at a particular station), and the possibility of a PA announcement. Could we please note that visits could be cancelled at very short notice due to operational incidents, although we will always try to facilitate the tour? We have a maximum of 15 people per group; tour will last approximately 45 minutes and must be booked 2 weeks in advance. Depot Tour - Walk around Lifting shop, explaining the processes
- If not busy a look into the Panel room, explaining about the movements around the Depot
- Where possible a trip up through the wash and down 17 road showing how the emergency brakes operate and are checked (this is dependant on staff and train availability - also the service going in or out)
Groups of 12 maximum with two members of staff (Schools and Community Liaison Officer and a member of the Fleet Group) and will last approximately 45 minutes and must be booked 2 weeks in advance.
