Simonside Metro

Story added: Thursday 25 May 2006
Metro’s 60th station is due to open at Simonside in South Tyneside in March 2008.

The station will serve a large residential area offering five trains in each direction per hour during the day direct to South Shields town centre, Gateshead and Newcastle.  Metro will greatly improve public transport links within Simonside.

Simonside is designed as a wayside halt station, but with the standard of waiting area, security and passenger information the modern traveller expects.

We carried out a thorough consultation with local residents to discuss the siting and appearance of their new station.
