A 400-space multi-storey car park will open at Northumberland Park Metro station in december 2008.
The car park is convenient for the congested A19 and A186 corridors and is aimed at commuters and shoppers travelling to Newcastle city centre from the WHitley Bay, Monkseaton and South East Northumberland areas.
The car park, built by Northumberland Estates and leased by Nexus, is fiitedd with CCTV security and includes bycycle lockers and racks.
It will suit busy modern lives - there is a Sainsbury superstore and local shops next to it, allowing people to travel more sustainable and pick up a pint of milk on the way home.
