Nexus is developing a £320,000 proposal to extend the Metro station car park at East Boldon. The plans would see an additional 128 parking spaces created by extending the existing car park onto an adjacent piece of wasteground.
This would bring the total number of parking spaces at East Boldon Metro up to 169 including 13 disabled parking spaces, along with cycle racks.
The area would also be landscaped and streetlighting installed at a level that reflects the green belt status of the area.
Nexus believes that, if approved, the enlarged car park will meet current and future demand for long-stay parking at East Boldon, a station popular with commuters travelling to both Newcastle and Sunderland, which it lies between, used by 600,000 passengers a year.
