Top cop Crispian Strachan was in full pursuit mode when he tracked down a member of Metro staff at Newcastle Airport this week. But when the Northumbria Police Chief Constable caught up with Metro security team member Joanne Grecian - Aktemel it wasn’t to arrest her but to present her with the latest Employee of the Month award from operator Nexus. Joanne was selected for the award as Nexus Employee of the Month for her skills, initiative and sheer tenacity in getting the job done after being nominated by her boss David Hogg. David had been particularly impressed with Joanne after she had helped officers in Sunderland combat attacks against students on approaches to Metro stations. Joanne took charge of the situation, liasing with all the parties involved to ensure that lighting on the station approaches was repaired so people using the station approaches in the evening were safe. In his nomination for Joanne, David said: "Joanne is just one of those marvellous people who simply sticks at the job until it’s done, no matter how difficult it is. "She has a tough and very busy job assisting the Metro Security team and the Metro Unit of Northumbria Police and regularly takes on complex tasks that would stump many people. But her skills, initiative and tenacity always see her get results. "As a result Joanne has earned the appreciation not just of her immediate colleagues at Nexus, but also of the police Community Beat Managers she regularly assists. "She is a highly valued member of staff and very deserving of the accolade of Employee of the Month." To mark her achievement, Joanne faced the arresting prospect of being presented with her award by Crispian Strachan at a ceremony at Newcastle Airport. Mr Strachan said: "I'm delighted to reward Joanne with Employee of the Month for Nexus and applaud her commitment to partnership working." Joanne received £50 in vouchers for Boots, a certificate and, of course, a bottle of champagne to help her celebrate.
