Less is more so go explore

Story added: Friday 13 August 2004

Despite no sign of summer weather just yet, local public transport operator Nexus is reminding day trippers of a bargain ticket that can take them all over the north for just a few pounds.

Nexus is encouraging travellers to leave the car behind and take the bus courtesy of the “Explorer North East” day ticket.

Explorer North East allows passengers to travel by bus the length and breadth of the region, from the Scottish Borders down to Scarborough in the South, and Carlisle in the West.

The ticket can be used on the Tyne and Wear Metro and Shields Ferry, as well as on Stagecoach, Go North East and Arriva buses

Passengers can buy the North’s only region-wide Integrated Public Transport ticket on the first bus they board or in advance from most Travelshops.

It costs just £6 for adults, while concessions are £5 and a family ticket for two adults and up to three children is £12.

Explorer North East tickets, which are available all year round, are valid after 9am Monday to Friday, and all day at weekends and bank holidays.

But in an added incentive for summer, all operators will accept them before 9am on weekdays between June 1 and August 31.

More information is available from Traveline on 0870 608 2 608 or from the website www.explorernortheast.co.uk
