Metro bid to find a Freddie

Story added: Monday 06 December 2004

BUSKERS could find themselves on the road to fame tomorrow (FRIDAY) when Metro operator Nexus hosts a busking competition with a twist - the contestants are will all be doing their best Freddie Mercury.

They have all been involved in the “Freddie Mercury Karaoke Challenge”, which reached its climax on Wednesday.

But not everyone can be a winner and so Metro operator Nexus has gathered the runners up together to pick the Metro Freddie favourite.

Freddies from across the region will gather at Newcastle’s Monument Metro Station at 10.30am on Friday, to belt out their best for Metro passengers.

Former Metro busking competition winner Lee Hayley, who has now embarked on a musical career with his band The Flowers of Evil, will judge the winner.

Whoever that is, they will be in for a merrier Christmas when they scoop tickets to One Night of Queen, the fantastic stage show, featuring Gary Mullen, on Wednesday 15th December at the Metro Radio Arena.

Nexus is also providing a prize of £50 in Eldon Square shopping vouchers for the winner.

News desks are invited to send reporters, film crews and photographers to cover the Metro Find-a-Freddie busking competition.
