Metro discounts add up for students

Story added: Tuesday 07 September 2004

HARD-UP students don’t need to be studying maths to realise they can save money on Metro travel now this year’s Metro Student Cards are on sale in Nexus Travelshops.

In fact, from the equivalent of just £4.23 per week for unlimited travel within the chosen zone, the Metro Student Card gives students the cheapest Metro travel available.

The card is available for unlimited travel within three different zones; Inner Newcastle, Inner Sunderland and All Zones, covering the whole Metro system.

Students can purchase a Metro Student Card for the whole year, or for a single semester.

Annual cards are valid until 5 September 2005 and are just £290 for the All Zones card, or £220 for the Inner Zones cards.

Semester cards are valid until 31 January 2005 and are £132 for the All Zones and £100 for the Inner Zones.

Scores of new and returning students use the Metro to get around in Tyne and Wear.

Andy Bairstow, Commercial Director for Metro operator Nexus explains why: “The system is absolutely ideal for students.

“There are Metro stations near to all the main university and college campuses, and near many of the halls of residences and student areas.

“We understand that students only have limited funds, which is why we’re offering a choice of limited or All zone cards and the choice of buying one for a whole year or just for the semester.”

Further information on Metro Student Cards are available from any Nexus Travelshop, or from the Metro website www.nexus.org.uk .
