Metro using vipers fans can slide £1 off admission thanks to renewed sponsorship deal

Story added: Friday 03 September 2004

ICE HOCKEY fans heading to see the Newcastle Vipers at home this season can save £1 on admission thanks to a renewed sponsorship deal between the club and Tyne and Wear Metro.

Metro operator Nexus signed the deal for a fourth season of sponsorship for the Vipers, renewing its long-running association with Ice Hockey on Tyneside.

The deal means Vipers fans will continue to receive £1 off admission to home games at the Metro Radio Arena simply by showing their Metro ticket or pass, valid on the day.

Scores of fans use the Metro to travel to home games, with Central Metro station just a five-minute walk away.

The sponsorship deal will also see Metro branding appear on Vipers kit in the 2004-05 season, taking up a spot on the home and road jerseys.
Announcing the renewed sponsorship deal, Nexus Commercial Director Andy Bairstow, said: "We're absolutely delighted to be sponsoring the Newcastle Vipers again this season.

"Many, many Vipers fans travel to the home games by Metro and so I'm sure they will all be delighted to learn that the discount from their Metro ticket or pass will be a benefit again this season."

Vipers General Manager Clyde Tuyl welcomed the deal, saying: "Tyne and Wear Metro is an established and reputable name throughout the North East, so we are delighted that they have once again agreed to sponsor the Newcastle Vipers.

"They have supported Ice Hockey in Newcastle for a number of years now, and I am looking forward to improving our relationship further in the future."
