More books made for walking as Nexus publishes latest Metro Walks guides

Story added: Monday 09 August 2004

Metro operator Nexus is giving the travelling public the chance to put its best foot forward again as it publishes the latest pair in its series of "Metro Walks" booklets.

The two booklets - numbers 4 and 5 - join earlier ones published over the last year which detail walks suitable for all the family that start and finish at Metro stations.

Written by experienced walking guide authors Peter Donaghy and John Laidler, the booklets detail walks which are ideal for all ages and abilities and range from 3 miles to 10 miles.

Metro Walks Booklets 4 and 5 each feature six walks:
Airport - Dissington Bridge - Airport
Hebburn - Pelaw
Pelaw - Gateshead
St James - Manors
Wansbeck Road - Four Lane Ends
Seaburn - East Boldon

Shiremoor - Holywell Dene - Shiremoor
Seaburn - St Peter’s
Jarrow - Bede
South Gosforth - Ilford Road
Ilford Road - Central Station
Kingston Park - Callerton Parkway

The walks provide an opportunity for Metro users to explore the Tyne and Wear area and obtain insights into a wide variety of cultural and historical attractions in the region.

The booklets contain a route map and detailed directions from the starting Metro station to the station at the end of the walk, at another Metro station.

They are available free of charge from any Nexus Travelshop and have proved so popular Nexus has had to move fast to print additional copies.

Booklets 1, 2 and 3 were printed earlier in the year in print runs of 10,000 copies each but they flew off the shelves at such a rate Nexus had to print an additional 10,000 of each.

So the once-bitten Metro operator has printed 20,000 copies of booklets 4 and 5 to ensure plenty of copies are available.
