Metro operator Nexus caught 274 people throughout November riding the system without a ticket. The 274, from across Tyne and Wear, were caught fare evading on the Metro and have been prosecuted through the courts. They were ordered to pay £39,405 in fines and costs. Their names have now been added to "Name and Shame" posters across the network which are displayed in prominent places. Andy Bairstow, Commercial Director for Nexus, said: "We are proactive in catching that minority of people who think they can ride the system without a ticket. We have a comprehensive anti-fraud strategy in place of which Losers is just a part."
