| Service Delivery |
|
 |
Service delivery is considered critical to the achievement of the above mentioned outcomes. By virtue of the Local Government Act 1999 the PTA is a best value authority and therefore has a statutory duty to seek continuous improvement in the delivery of the services that it oversees having regard to efficiency, effectiveness and economy. In accordance with published statutory guidance the PTA and Nexus work closely together to ensure that best value is effective by focusing on performance improvement, delivery of better quality services and facilitating an improved quality of life for local people. In addition to promoting the overall usage of public transport in Tyne and Wear the key services that the PTA oversees are: - - The Metro
- Socially necessary bus services and bus related infrastructure
- Care services
- Tyne ferry service
- Concessionary Travel
- Travel information
- Tyne Tunnels
- Newcastle/Sunderland heavy rail services
With the exception of the Tyne Tunnels all of the above services are promoted, provided and/or procured by Nexus. The delivery of these services is performance managed against a number of indicators, which are reported on periodically throughout the year. In addition these are used to form the basis for the Summary Performance Plan that the PTA and Nexus publish annually to the community of Tyne and Wear by the 30th March each year using local magazines, libraries, civic buildings and the internet.
