The PTA and Nexus believe that these objectives, policies, programmes and priorities will, through increasing real travel choice for local people, produce: -

• A high quality public transport network that provides a desirable alternative to car travel
• A sufficient supply of affordable public transport which meets the needs of all sections of the community including disabled people
• A network of public transport services that are integrated to increase the quality and quantity of transport

Through attaining these outputs the PTA and Nexus aspire to obtaining the following outcomes for the local people in Tyne and Wear: -

• Greater economic activity
• Substantial avoidance of road traffic congestion and capturing the environmental benefits arising from this
• A more inclusive society
• A modal shift towards public transport, and
• Greater use of public transport
