The Local Government Act 2000 introduced a number of changes to the way in which local authorities carry out their work. While major innovations, such as the change to cabinet-style government, do not apply to the PTA, a number of improvements, such as dispensing with the committees such as those that formerly dealt with the Tyne Tunnel and Passenger Services, and replacing them with Leading Members acting as spokespersons for various functions, have been made. These changes bring the operating procedures of the PTA more closely in line with those of its five constituent councils. This part of the site brings together those documents, charters and policies that regulate the procedures of the PTA, how it carries out its functions and takes its decisions and how its Members and Officers are required to conduct themselves in serving the public.
